In 2016, we released book Brigitte Lahaie, les films de culte,the result of three years spent with the actress exploring her formidable cinematic adventures. Two years ago, we published an English version of this book, which readers agree has become a reference in the field, and is the pride of the actress herself.
In 2023, after moving house, Brigitte asked us to come and consult with her all the photographs she had accumulated over the years, whether taken by prestigious photographers or amateurs, by friends or family members, or by men who had counted in her life. It soon became clear to us that there was material here for a beautiful album, with a plethora of completely unpublished images, that would trace her journey from a shy young woman taking her first steps in front of a camera lens to a famous and admired radio host.
Brigitte then offered to write the lyrics for this album herself. And when she let us read the first chapters, we were both astonished and won over, surprised to learn so much about her. After two particularly eventful years since the end of 2021, with a house fire, a separation and a painful horse-riding accident, Brigitte has learned to let go, and now feels totally free to say anything, tell anything…
Brigitte tells us about her early years, then her entry into the world of adult cinema, at the height of its golden age in the late 70s in France. Then the desert crossing she experienced after bidding farewell to X-rated films. Her meeting with René Chateau, about which Brigitte confides for the first time: her own way of paying tribute to this great man who has just passed away, with whom she lived an intense relationship, both passionately and professionally.
When she left René, to regain the freedom she had always been so fond of, she turned her back on cinema once and for all and changed her life. She left Paris to recharge her batteries.
In 2001, a new adventure began. Her radio show made her France’s favorite confidante and advisor on love and sexuality, a source of new fulfillment for her.
Life is always full of surprises, and here she finds herself faced with a series of new adventures in the space of just a few months. She goes through them with the strength and courage that are her trademarks. Today, she embarks on a new life, with a new-found serenity.
Lahaie par Brigitte is a beautiful 176-page full-color hardcover book with soft-touch effect, in 25.80 x 28.40 format. It features over 200 photos, mainly from Brigitte’s private collection. It is available in a choice of French or full English versions.
