More than fifty years after its theatrical release, Behind the Green Doorone of the greatest classics of American adult cinema returns for the first time ever in 4K, in an event edition featuring an Ultra HD / blu-ray combo, the complete original soundtrack on audio CD and, for the first time in French, the book that inspired the film. Push the green door and step back in time to get again a taste of the porno chic era.

In 1972, James and Artie Mitchell had a brilliant idea. These two brothers, entrepreneurs and owners of the O’Farrell Theater, an adult cinema in San Francisco produced a full-length feature film destined to become one of the first X-rated classics, not only in America, but worldwide. A film that will go down in cinema history: Behind the Green Door . Its phenomenal success opened the doors to international distribution and made a legend of its lead actress, the not-entirely-unknown Marilyn Chambers (whose beautiful face was on the popular Ivory Snow laundry detergent boxes).

With Deep Throat directed the same year by Gerard Damiano, Behind the Green Door testifies to a sexual revolution in progress, and kicked off the Golden Age of Porn, the golden age of American pornographic cinema. If Deep Throat establishes the vein of joyful, liberating and humorous X, Behind the Green Door ushered in an artistic and aesthetic form of porn, soon to be known as porno chic.

The story: Gloria, a beautiful and mundane American girl , is kidnapped by strangers. She doesn’t know it yet, but tonight she’ll be the star of an exotic show that’s as curious as it is exciting. Behind a green door, lovers await her, along with a hand-picked audience of masked voyeurs made up of the filthy rich.

Despite the considerable impact of Behind the Green Door on the society of the time and on pop culture, the film has never been offered in high definition or in a video edition worthy of it. It has never even been released on DVD in French! In partnership with Michtell Brothers Film Group, we have teamed up with American publisher Mélusine to remedy this injustice. The original 16mm negatives were scanned in 4K and the film restored in the U.S. by Mitchell Brothers Film Group with the greatest care, while producing new original additional programs. We are now able to present Behind the Green Door in exceptional conditions, in a UHD/blu-ray combo edition. The UHD and blu-ray are identical to those offered by Mitchell Brothers / Mélusine.
