The seeds of terror

The origin of this gamebook lies in another project, a big anthology of the slasher genre that we spent two years to write, back in 2021. While working on this 352-pages book (released in French only), we imagined that we could also offer a different approach to this essential slice of horror cinema, with a more playful, thrill-seeking experience. As children from the 80’s, we reprised the formula of the interactive fictions from the “Choose your own adventure” collection, transposing its rules into a horrific atmosphere, and blowing up all safeguards. As every proper slasher movie, our gamebook is all about violence, blood and sex!

We released the original French edition of the book a couple of years ago. It was warmly welcomed among horror lovers and among interactive fiction fans, and even got some awards on the way. We are now very happy to present the new and improved full-English version.

I know what you’ll read this summer

In Make your own Slasher, you play a first year student at Prescott University. Girl or boy, you get to decide your gender: the adventure can be experienced fully mixed. As soon as you arrive on the campus for the new year, you notice that something is wrong, with rumors of corpses being found, and the strange behavior of some of your new friends. But as so many horror films brilliantly document, the worst threats never refrain the students’ desire to live, to party, to get drunk and to get laid as much as they can! Will you make it through this first night, with a mysterious individual on a killing spree, getting closer to you each time?

Prepare yourself to run for your life, to collect precious items that will help you to survive, and ultimately, to face this ruthless killer. Along the adventure, you’ll encounter death many times. Killings are all part of the flavor of a horror movie. We’ve chosen to let you experience these in the first person! You’ll often have to retrace your steps, in the manner of a die-and-retry vintage game, with the difficulty set on hardcore mode. Don’t draw into fear and despair. The Final Girl that lies in you will eventually prevail.

Last, but not least : Make your own Slasher includes an extra side quest: if you survive and collect every deadly item from the adventure, you’ll will be able to unlock a new game mode where you get to play the killer.

How do you play ?

Based on the “choose your own adventure” gamebooks, the principle of Make your own Slasher is engaging, yet very simple: imagine a solo version of a roleplaying game, where the book is the game master. Each paragraph gives you different choices: go to the library or to the swimming pool, take the door to the left or to the right, use an item that you found, escape silently or confront the killer. You then go to a new chapter, where other actions and choices are proposed to you. You will also have to roll the dice to determine the outcome of the fights. With over 420 paragraphs, no session is identical to another!

Choose your cover and be prepared to die…

Make your own Slasher is available with two different covers to choose from. Are you a fan of the golden age of slashers, such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine and others? Let yourself be tempted by the 80’s cover (blue & red) inspired by the poster of the excellent Final Exam. Are you more of a fan of the neo-slashers as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend? Why not fall for the 90’s cover (green & red). To respect the tradition of the paperback covers, we got a pretty bloody embossed selected varnish on both covers. Attention students: only the cover changes, the gamebooks are identical ! But you can of course collect the two.
